The Role
Ventia, in collaboration with the Australian Defence Force, is seeking an enthusiastic Chef who is passionate about delivering exceptional food and outstanding customer service. Join our vibrant team and support daily kitchen operations. You’ll be responsible for crafting exceptional meals and catering for events, all while maintaining the highest culinary standards.

 

This position will see you work between the Keswick and Woodside Barracks, South Australia. A permanent part-time position, working rostered shifts any day from Monday to Sunday. There will be a requirement to work nights and weekends for functions and events at the Bases. Successful candidates will also have the chance to work at other Defence locations for camps, including Hampstead Barracks and Cultana, Port Augusta.

 

Benefits:

  • Part-time rates: $27.44 per hour +$6.43 Chef Market Allowance. (per worked hour)
  • Penalty rates for shifts after 6 pm, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Additional allowances for laundry, tools and first aiders (if/when certified).
  • Uniform/PPE supplied.

 

Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Supporting the Head Chef with daily mess operations and food service. 
  • Food preparation including operating large volume cooking equipment. 
  • Deliver exceptional customer experiences, in line with contract expectations. 
  • Support and participate in the implementation and management of Ventia’s Food Safety Program. 
  • Clean, sanitise and maintain the equipment and premises.
  • Support stock management initiatives, including stock rotation and restocking consumables.

 

Skills & Experience

  • Australian recognised Commercial Cookery qualification (Cert III or higher). (Required) 
  • Current Australian Drivers Licence. (Required)
  • Sound knowledge of Food Safety Standards, relevant legislation and statutory obligations. 
  • Previous experience in a similar commercial hospitality role.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously, as well as in a team.

Must be eligible to hold a Defence Security Clearance. As a result of this requirement the applicant must be an Australian Citizen.
