Ventia is on the hunt for passionate, skilled, and experienced Casual Chefs to join our Defence Base Services Contract in Darwin, Northern Territory. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a dynamic and supportive team, contributing to upcoming exercises with the potential for full-time hours for the right candidates!

 

As a Chef, you'll be working on a rotating 7-day roster, with weekend shifts and the chance to cover bustling breakfast, lunch, and dinner services, as well as exciting functions during peak periods. This role will challenge your skills, showcase your expertise, and immerse you in a fast-paced environment!

 

Location: Robertson Barracks

Rate: $43ph plus penalties

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Food Safety Mastery: Preventive management of food safety hazards through HACCP controls, ensuring all safety standards are met.
  • Meal Service Management: Oversee the preparation and delivery of high-quality meal services, collaborating with the Food & Beverage Coordinator and Mess Committee to ensure expectations and performance are met.
  • Culinary Expertise: Operate large-volume cooking equipment, such as grills, fryers, and barbecues, ensuring efficient and top-tier meal production.
  • Stock Control: Manage the entire stock process, from ordering and rotation to storage, handling, and wastage practices. You’ll also coordinate regular stock takes.
  • Training & Development: Train all food production personnel in Broadspectrum’s food preparation methods, including special dietary needs such as Kosher and Halal.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with the compliance team to ensure efficient management of Health, Safety, Environment (HSE), Food Safety, HACCP, and contract compliance.
  • Kitchen Cleanliness: Ensure the kitchen remains clean, sanitised, and well-maintained, and oversee documentation related to cleaning schedules and incoming goods.

 

Position Requirements:

 

  • Australian-recognised Commercial Cookery qualification (Cert 4) – your foundation in cooking excellence.
  • In-depth understanding of Food Safety Standards, relevant legislation, and statutory obligations.
  • Passion for customer service – a dedication to delivering high-quality service every time.
  • Excellent organisational skills – able to manage a high volume of tasks while maintaining excellent standards.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills – collaborate with your team and liaise with key stakeholders.
  • Clear communication skills – both verbal and written, ensuring smooth operations.
