About the role
This full-time Natural Area Manager role is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and monitoring of land management strategies and programs that promote the sustainable long-term use of the Defence Estate. Acting as a key liaison between Ventia and the Department of Defence, you’ll ensure alignment with contract requirements, client expectations, and compliance with safety, regulatory, estate data, and Defence standards.
This role requires technical expertise in ecology, bushfire planning, weed and animal management, and flora and fauna studies, with a strong focus on continuous improvement and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

Compliance and Standards: Ensure compliance with safety, health, environment, and quality (SHEQ) standards and Defence policies.

Planning and Delivery: Lead planning and delivery of land management activities, ensuring alignment with contract KPIs.

Technical Expertise and Reporting: Provide expert technical guidance and produce high-quality environmental reports and management plans.

Program and Stakeholder Support: Support NAM program offices through visible leadership and technical guidance. Engage with Defence stakeholders to ensure service alignment and technical assurance.

Performance Monitoring: Monitor performance through audits and compliance programs.

Data and Digital Transformation: Maintain accurate estate data and support digital transformation initiatives.

Team Culture and Capability: Foster a positive team culture and support workforce capability development.

Strategic Contribution: Contribute to strategic planning and continuous improvement initiatives.

Team Integration: Support the Base teams and work as a Team-of-Teams integrator and facilitator across the state and region.
About you

Tertiary qualifications in Natural Resource Management, Ecology, Environmental Science or similar

Experience in land management within Defence or complex environments

Strong understanding of WHS legislation and compliance

Proficiency with GIS and estate data systems

Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills

Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities

A commitment to safety, compliance, and customer satisfaction.

Must be eligible to hold a NV1 Defence Security Clearance As a result of this requirement the applicant must be an Australian Citizen and be willing to undertake and maintain a satisfactory Australian Federal Police.
