The Role
Ventia, in partnership with the Australian Defence Force, is seeking a passionate Pastry Chef to craft exceptional desserts and baked goods. Join our vibrant team and contribute to daily kitchen operations, creating exquisite pastries and desserts for events, all while upholding the highest culinary standards.
This permanent part-time role is based at the RAAF Base Edinburgh and the DST Cafe in South Australia. The kitchen operates daily from approximately 5:00am to 8:30pm, with VIP events extending until around 9:00pm. You will be rostered for shifts within these hours of operation.
What we offer:
- Permanent part-time role. Minimum 20 hours per week.
- Hourly base rate: $27.17 + 11.5% super.
- Chef Market Allowance: +$6.43 per worked hour (inclusive of 11.5% super).
Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Supporting the Head Chef with daily mess operations and food service.
- Food preparation including operating large volume cooking equipment.
- Assist with preparing cakes, slices, muffins, tarts and other dessert/pastry items for mess, functions, Grab & Go and DST Cafe.
- Deliver exceptional customer experiences, in line with contract expectations.
- Support and participate in the implementation and management of Ventia’s Food Safety Program.
- Clean, sanitise and maintain the equipment and premises in accordance with HACCP Standards.
- Support stock management initiatives, including stock rotation and restocking consumables.
Skills & Experience
- Australian recognised Commercial Cookery qualification (Cert III or higher). (Required)
- Certificate III in Patisserie. (Highly regarded).
- Previous experience in preparing pastries and desserts. (Required)
- Current Australian Drivers Licence. (Required)
- Sound knowledge of Food Safety Standards, relevant legislation and statutory obligations.
- Previous experience in a similar commercial hospitality role.
- Outstanding customer service skills.
- Ability to work autonomously, as well as in a team.
Must be eligible to hold a Defence Security Clearance. As a result of this requirement the applicant must be an Australian Citizen.
