The role

The Far North Waters Alliance operate and maintain 9 water supply schemes on behalf of the Far North District Council. 8 of these schemes are in the southern part of the district and are serviced by a dedicated water reticulation team. The primary purpose of this position is to supervise this team to ensure the most efficient and effective utilisation of resources to meet contractual responsibilities, to efficiently manage plant, equipment and materials, to provide technical support as and when required and to ensure that all quality and H&S requirements are met by the water reticulation team.  Some field work will be required from time to time as the need arises.

 

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Supervisory – consistently deliver excellent Risk and SHEQ results; day to day supervision of the water reticulation team; undertake staff supervision duties for the team, ensuring that optimum performance is achieved wherever possible; Provide recommendations to the Manager on staff training needs relevant to the work undertaken; allocation of staff and other resources including sub-contractors where appropriate, including management of inventories, preparation and management of on-call roster.
  • Reporting – Supervise and complete reports as required for contractual compliance and prepare, review and update programmed works as necessary.
  • Plant and Equipment – Responsible for day to day supervision of all plant and equipment assigned to the water reticulation department, and arranging via the Plant Supervisor for the hireage of any equipment and plant as required

 

 

Minimum requirements for the position:

 

  • 5 NCEA Level 2 or equivalent in Maths, English and a Science subject
  • NZ Water Reticulation Service person qualification or similar trade qualification
  • Previous experience in a supervisory role
  • Relevant experience of working within a Water or other reticulation network
  • Comprehensive experience in water network operation and maintenance, including pipework, valves, hydrants and meters
  • Experience with requirements of Taumata Arowai is desirable
  • A current full Class 2 driver’s licence
  • WTR endorsement
  • Technical understanding of hydraulic distribution systems or proven ability in a similar area
  • A flexible approach to working hours which will include working at night
