Trade Assistant

The Opportunity

Fantastic opportunity for an experienced Trade Assistant to join our Defence Maintenance Support Team. Working on one of our long-term Defence contracts, you will perform all trade related tasks associated with the maintenance and repair of vehicles, plant, and equipment.  There will also be a requirement to assist in maintenance and storeroom tasks as required. The role is a permanent full-time opportunity located within our Moorebank NSW defence base, includes free onsite parking, a dynamic team environment, work-life balance, and attractive hours 7:00am - 3:45pm, Monday - Thursday and 7:00am - 12:00pm (noon) on Fridays.

Key responsibilities:

• Assist in managing tools and equipment within the Supply Customer Account/s on the Commonwealth Mandated Information System and on Asset Registers
• Conducting maintenance tasks within the applicable competencies, under the supervision of a tradesperson
• Contributing to collaborative innovation by identifying continuous improvement initiatives
• Operating plant and machinery as required and provided by the Commonwealth to perform maintenance tasks
• Performing additional work-related responsibilities as directed by the Team Leader, such as first aid attendant, HSE committee representative, unit fire team representative, and/or member of a business improvement team
• Operate plant and equipment where qualified and licensed
• Maintain work area in a neat and orderly manner
• Perform manual tasks associated with maintenance and construction as required, including safe working duties
• Undertake, as instructed by your Team Leader, other tasks which may be incidental & peripheral to your trade

Could you be our next Trade Assistant?

• Experience in technical related work, preferably part qualified (3rd/4th year apprentice suitable) in a Certificate of trade Proficiency, relevant to the trade environment - Heavy Vehicle Mechanic or Plant Mechanic
• Hold a valid Forklift License
• Demonstrated experience in manual handling
• Possess a current Australian State or territory class C Driver’s Licence
• Possess a current State open drivers licence for medium Rigid (MR) classes of vehicles
• Tyre fitting experience is advantageous

The incumbent to this role must be eligible to hold a Defence Security Clearance up to the level of Negative Vetting Level 1.  As a result of this requirement, the incumbent must be an Australian Citizen.
