The Role   

Ventia is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Watchroom Operator to join our Fire Services team in 2025. This critical role ensures the operational readiness and coordination of emergency response efforts, supporting our mission to protect lives, property, and the environment. This role may serve as an entry-level pathway for individuals aspiring to become firefighters, offering valuable exposure to emergency operations and fire station procedures.

Duties Include:  

• Operational Readiness: Maintain effective operational readiness in line with Ventia’s policies and guidelines.
• Incident Response: Dispatch fire crews to incidents and provide ongoing support and communication to the Incident Controller.
• Administrative Support: Assist the Officer in Charge (OIC) with administrative duties related to the operational functions of the fire station.
• Training Participation: Actively engage in the Fire Station’s training and development programs to maintain high standards of performance and preparedness.

About you:  

We are seeking a Watchroom Operator that can bring a diverse background to a high performing contract as well as:

• Strong communication and coordination skills.
• Ability to remain calm and focused under pressure.
• Familiarity with emergency response protocols (preferred).
• Commitment to teamwork and continuous improvement.
• Previous experience in a communications room or an emergency services environment is advantageous.

You must also hold the following units of competency:

• PUAFIR215- Prevent Injury
• PUAOPE002B- Operate Communications Equipment
• PUATEA001B- Work in a Team
• PUACOM001C- Communicate in the Workplace
• PUATEA002B- Work Autonomously

And you must be an Australian Citizen and able to maintain a Department of Defence Security Clearance.
