People Services Team Leader - Advisory

About the Role:
Located in North Sydney NSW – The Team Leader (Advisory) will be a role involves hands-on management role required to manage and support a team and balance their own case work. This role will also be responsible for providing advice on cases, ensuring the team effectively manages its caseload, ensuring compliance and timely resolution of all workplace relations issues.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Case Management
- Provide timely, considered and compliant advice to support leaders and employees on performance and conduct-related matters.
- Provide coaching and guidance to team on cases including support with risk mitigation and strategic direction.
- Responsible for tracking teams cases and ensuring cases are compliant and efficiently managed.
- Responsible for the case management of all employment relations matters including serious misconduct and misconduct investigations, performance matters, employee grievances and conduct issues.
- Lead the investigation and resolution of complex and/ or serious employee complaints and grievances, ensuring all cases are handled with impartiality and fairness, and in accordance with best practices and legal requirements.
- Support the implementation of disciplinary procedures and processes, ensuring consistency and fairness in their application.
Quality and Compliance
- Audit and review team members cases to ensure case compliance.
- Conclude all cases in a timely and compliant way and ensure that all matters are well documented and accurately recorded.
- Analyse and provide guidance on company policies and enterprise agreements, ensuring accurate interpretation and application within the organisation.
- Provide advice on the interpretation and application of industrial awards and associated legislation, ensuring compliance and best practice within the organization.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including the People & Culture team, Safety, Health, Environment & Quality (SHEQ), and Health Injury Management (HIMS), to provide comprehensive employment relations advice and facilitate effective outcomes for the business.
- Remaining up to date regarding current industrial and employee relations issues and employment law and that the updates are disseminated to the team
Stakeholder Management
- Manage escalations from the team or external stakeholders and take appropriate action to resolve the matter. If unable to resolve, ensure timely escalation to People Services Manager - Advisory.
- Work with stakeholders and Senior Advisors/ Advisors to implement strategic resolution of complex matters ensuring commercial, reputational, financial and compliance factors are considered.
- Coach and guide managers as a trusted Advisor of the People Services Advisory team.
Team Support and Focus
- Manage administration of the Case Management System to ensure the accuracy of data and metrics.
- Provide coaching and technical advice to the People Services Advisory Team members when requested.
- Manage allocation of casework within the case management system across the People Services Advisory team.
- Provide support and coaching to team members across the wider People Services team.
- When required support with the coordination and management of Unfair Dismissals and General Protections Applications including working with relevant stakeholders (e.g. IR/ER, P&C, Operations and external legal counsel) to effectively manage the matter.
- Proactively identify areas for improvement within the team and across the broader organization, take a leading role in assisting with the coordination and implementation of projects aimed at enhancing employee relations, streamlining processes, and promoting a positive and productive work environment.
Key Skills and Experience of the ideal candidate:
- Qualification in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 2-5 years’ experience in a similar role such in the field of Employment Relations or as an HR Business Partner role, in a medium to large organisation.
- 2-4 years’ experience in managing employee and industrial relations issues.
- 2+ years’ experience in managing small teams.
- Understanding of employment legislation and as well as the ability to interpret industrial instruments.
- Requires strong compliance skills to ensure all advisory activities are conducted in accordance with relevant internal and external rules and regulations
- Experience in collaborative and consultative processes at a professional level.
- Excellent interpersonal skills including ability to influence and coach various levels of management.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skill.
- An ability to work flexibly and adaptively in a complex environment with multiple stakeholders.
- Ability to work under pressure and across multiple matters with varying levels of difficulty
- Ability to understand and assess risk and provide options to mitigate
