About the role
Ventia is seeking expressions of interest for a highly motivated Hydrographer /  Environmental Scientist with skills to facilitate a range of environmental and contaminated land projects.  You will be working on projects in Regional Victoria including the defence industry and large government contracts just to name a few.  

 

We are looking for someone with the skills to collect and report on environmental and contaminated land data specifically in groundwater.  Other key project areas you may works on include soil contamination, landfill gas, GW, data quality, planning and facilitating site maintenance and improvement programs.

Under direction and guidance of the Operations Manager this role is responsible for:

 

  • Data collection of large-scale environmental monitoring programs for government and private interests. Project works would include all aspects from inception to completion including OH&S, financials, , laboratory coordination, data collation and some minor reporting.
  • Undertaking environmental data collection activities for both surface & groundwaters, gas monitoring, soil sampling.
  • Document field work for sampling, monitoring, and OH&S with attention to detail and data quality.
  • Servicing, calibrating, and maintaining onsite monitoring equipment and associated sensors.
  • Observing maintenance needs at respective sites and ensuring works are appropriately scheduled into the work program.

 

About the Position:

  • Some industry experience would be preferably, but not essential in groundwater / surface water or contaminated land monitoring.
  • Qualifications in Environmental Science, Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Engineering, Hydrography, or other similar fields.
  • High level MS Excel user (mandatory), and experience in the use of ESDAT, Hydstra, Campbells, AutoCAD and Arc GIS is desirable.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and client liaison.
  • Excellent time management, and an eagerness to acquire new skills and meet new challenges.
  • Field experience with groundwater sampling techniques such as low flow sampling.
  • Self-motivated and the ability to work unsupervised.  Also, to routinely travel and work remotely, away from home for up to a week at a time.
  • A First Aid certificate and white / red card would also be looked upon favourably.
  • Willing to travel regulary with nights away from home.
