The Transmission Line Mechanic Trainee position

A day in the life

No two days are ever the same. You might be:
  • Climbing transmission towers and structures
  • Conducting inspections and maintenance activities
  • Installing conductors and supporting line stringing works
  • Repairing and upgrading critical network infrastructure

The work environment

This is physically demanding work completed outdoors in remote locations. You may work in extreme heat, cold, dust, rain, mud, wind and noisy environments. Working in a team environment with a culture of Safety, Quality Workmanship and a Commitment to ‘Keeping the Lights On’.

The role requires:
  • Working at heights
  • Practical, hands-on mindset with a strong aptitude for mechanical systems
  • Good support for training development and mentoring on site
  • Wide variety of work on different structure types or tower configurations
  • Lifting and carrying equipment
  • Driving an essential skill both 4WD and ATV training provided
  • Working across farms, coastal or urban areas – the landscape changes daily
  • Physical fitness and mobility are baseline requirements
  • Work away from home  with competitive allowances

3. Online assesment

if your application progresses, you'll receive an invitation to complete an online assessment, which can be conveniently completed on your mobile device. The assessment is designed to help us better understand your suitability for the role, including your motivation, understanding of the position, and alignment with our safety-focused culture.

4. Interview 

Candidates who are successful at the assessment stage will be invited to participate in an interview with a member of our Talent Acquisition team. This conversation is an opportunity for us to learn more about your background, experience, availability, and suitability for the role, while also giving you the chance to ask questions about working at Ventia.

Depending on the role requirements and hiring demand at the time, you may also be invited to participate in a second interview with members of our Operations team.

5. Background checks

As part of the recruitment process, successful candidates will be required to complete pre-employment checks, which includes reference checks, a police check, medical and functional assessments, and drug and alcohol testing.

6. Offers and onboarding

If you're successful, we’ll extend a formal offer.

Once you accept, the team will ensure you have everything you need to start strong, from system access to team introductions.
